The Irish-language film The Quiet Girl has been almost universally praised and was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Foreign Language Film and it’s not hard to see what’s winning the acclaim. The movie is a calm, carefully composed story told in a straightforward style that reaches for visual lyricism and doesn’t force even the biggest emotions of the tale it’s telling. And about a half-hour in I was certain I was going to climb the walls of the theater before it was over.
